Name of Man Killed in Rowland Heights Roadway Released

Los Angeles resident Earl T. Bourne II, 28, was run over after he laid down in the street.

The coroner today released the name of the man who walked into a Rowland Heights street, lay in the roadway and was hit and killed by a sport utility vehicle.

He was Earl T. Bourne II, 28, of Los Angeles, said coroner's Investigator Elissa Fleak.

A group of students returning from a late night trip to Disneyland may have witnessed the gruesome incident.

The crash was at 12:20 a.m. Saturday next to John A. Rowland High School on Colima Road near Otterbein Avenue, according to CHP Officer Anthony Martin and a freelance news photographer.

According to the CHP, Bourne walked off the sidewalk from the south roadway edge of Colima Road and proceeded to lay down within the number two lane. He died at the scene.

Just prior to the crash, a group of students were dropped off at the school after a trip to Disneyland, a woman told the photographer. She said she had just picked up her teenager when the crash occurred.   Bourne was struck by a 2003 blue Dodge Durango SUV, the CHP said. The Durango driver was identified as Gloria A. Gutierrez, 21, with no city of residence noted.

The crash was still under investigation, the CHP said.

Crystal, I am so sorry for you loss. I didn't know Earl for very long, but he was a very nice young man, with a very good heart. He also had a love for God and wanted to learn more about him and build a relationship with him. I feel fortunate to have been able to help him start that process. If there is anything that myself or my wife Liz can do for you, please dont hesitate to contact us. my email is me@fredromero.com You and Earl's family are in our prayers. Fred Romero
