UPDATE: Man Lying in Rowland Heights Road When Struck, Killed
The 28-year-old man was struck on Colima Road -- near Otterbein Avenue -- and an unidentified woman was detained.

A pedestrian had lain down in the road just before being struck by an SUV in unincorporated Rowland Heights Saturday, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred at 12:20 a.m. on Colima Road, near Otterbein Avenue, according to CHP Officer Anthony Martin and a news photographer.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene, Martin said.
Just before the crash, a group of students were dropped off at nearby John A. Rowland High School after a trip to Disneyland, said a woman at the scene who was there to pick up her child.

The victim was struck by a blue 2003 blue Dodge Durango sport utility vehicle, a photographer at the scene said.
The name of the pedestrian will be released pending notification of next
of kin, Coroner's Lt. Larry Dietz said.
A woman in handcuffs was taken from the scene in the back of a CHP patrol car, the photographer said.
The victim's body, which appeared to have been dragged, was covered by a yellow tarp, he said.
Additional remains were covered closer to the SUV, which was stopped a short distance from the body, he said.
The road was wet a the time of the crash, according to the cameraman.
