Pre-Trial Hearing for Former Lorbeer Teacher Andrews Postponed

A judge ruled last week that the case would go to trial.

Although a Los Angeles County Superior Court judge ruled last week that the trial for Steven Andrews would move forward, the expected start of jury selection has been delayed.

Andrews, 42, is a former Lorbeer Middle School teacher, is accused of committing lewd acts on a 14-year-old female student.

A hearing set for today to possibly finalize trial plans has been postponed until Oct. 7, said Shiara Davila-Morales, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office.

Andrews surrendered to Walnut/Diamond Bar Sheriff’s Station deputies on Sept. 30, 2011. He faces 17 charges, including six counts of sexual penetration with a foreign object, six counts of unlawful sexual intercourse with a child, two counts of oral copulation with a child under 16, and three counts of lewd acts on a child. He pleaded not guilty in November 2011.
