Rowland Heights Drug Bust Nets Three Arrests

The suspects were caught planning to sell Ecstasy in capsule form.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Operation Safe Streets Bureau - Asian Gang Team arrested three suspects following a foiled narcotics transaction at a strip mall in Rowland Heights Wednesday evening.

Arcadia residents Denis Lam, 20, and Ruoyu Mike Dong, 22, as well as 23-year-old Juan Carlos Cabrales of Azusa were arrested, according to a news release.  Lam and Dong allegedly are members of a well-known Asian street gang, authorities said.

The three suspects are facing a variety of narcotics charges, including possession for sales, transportation, cultivation of marijuana, and conspiracy. They were booked at the Industry Sheriff's station and later released on $30,000 bond each.

Cabrales, who investigators allege was hired as a "runner" by Lam and Dong to deliver 1,000 Ecstasy pills called "Mollies" to a buyer in exchange for $5,000 was arrested in the 18900 block of Gale Ave. before the transaction could take place. “Mollies” are Ecstasy pills or MDMA made into powder form and put into capsules.

Shortly after, investigators found Lam and Dong, who were monitoring the transaction nearby, and arrested them.

Investigators worked through the night to get a search warrant for the homes of Lam and Dong.  They found a small indoor marijuana grow at Lam's home, seizing several plants and cultivation equipment.

All three suspects are expected to appear in Pomona Superior Court Friday, according to court records.
