Fire chiefs from across Southern California met Monday in Diamond Bar to coordinate resources in the face of what is expected to be a volatile fire season.

The meeting of chiefs from departments from San Luis Obispo to Orange County also included leaded of Cal Fire, the U.S. Forest Agency, California Emergency Management Agency and Los Angeles city and county fire departments.

"It's not just about the fire chiefs talking in this meeting today. It's about us making sure that every firefighter from rookie to experienced understands what this really means," Cal Fire Chief Ken Pimlott said.

Pimlott added that he is troubled by the extreme drought conditions that California is experiencing.

Cal Fire Southern Region Chief Dale Hutchinson said the purpose of the meeting is also to make sure staff are trained and ready to go.

"Conditions are this year very dry in all areas of California. The drought is very significant and the cooperation from those behind me, all agencies, are critical for success in California," Hutchinson said.

Los Angeles County Fire Chief Daryl Osby said cooperation between agencies can keep fires small "to ensure we provide the best service possible to the citizens of Southern California."

Questioning the use of "coordinator" in the headline. The word is a noun where you need the verb, coordinate. In the first sentence the usage is corrected.
