Suspect Identified in the Slayings of Former Walnut High Athlete and Her Fiance

The Irvine Police Department are expected to have a press conference on the case.

Irvine police announced tonight that a suspect has been identified in the slayings of a recently engaged couple shot to death in the parking structure of their Irvine condominium complex.

The announcement comes after autopsies were done on the bodies of 27-year-old Keith Lawrence and his 28-year-old fiance, Monica Quan, a former Walnut High School star athlete. Both died of multiple gunshot wounds, Orange County coroner's officials said today.

The police chief scheduled a 7:30 p.m. news conference to discuss the
development in the investigation into the murders of Lawrence and Quan.

No arrests had been made up to now, prompting Irvine homicide investigators to set up a tip line at (949) 724-7192.

Police received a call at 9:10 p.m. Sunday reporting a person slumped over in a parked car at 2100 Scholarship. Officers found the recently engaged couple dead in Lawrence's Kia, which was parked at the top of the five-story structure for the building where they lived.

Irvine police Lt. Julia Engen said there's no evidence they were being robbed, and noted that the high-density residential community is highly secure with key card access only.

Diamond Bar-Walnut Patch will update the story as more details become available.
