Suspect in 2012 Rowland Heights Rape Case Charged

A man who allegedly broke into a Rowland Heights woman's apartment and sexually assaulted her in 2012, but who was only recently arrested because of DNA evidence, was charged Tuesday with rape and other counts.

Pablo Reyes Bautista, 26, was arrested Saturday in the Atwater Village area in connection with the Oct. 27, 2012, attack in the 1500 block of Jellick Avenue, according to the Sheriff's Department.

He was charged with first-degree burglary, rape, sexual penetration by foreign object, aggravated mayhem and assault with intent to commit rape during the commission of a burglary, according to the District Attorney's Office.

Sheriff's Department investigators said they recently entered DNA evidence from the attack into an FBI database, leading them to Bautista.

According to sheriff's officials and prosecutors, the then-29-year-old woman was awakened by an intruder inside her apartment. The suspect beat and raped the woman, prosecutors said.

Bautista, a former Rowland Heights resident, faces 57 years to life in prison if convicted, according to the District Attorney's Office.
