Teen Girl Struck, Killed by Train in Industry While Hearing Headphones

Alexius Visaya, 16, died at the scene.

A 16-year-old girl was fatally struck by a freight train in Industry, apparently while wearing headphones that may have affected her awareness of the approaching train, authorities said today.

The victim was struck by a Union Pacific train near the 600 block of Turnbull Canyon Road around 10:10 p.m. Wednesday, said Los Angeles County sheriff's Lt. R. Enriquez.

Alexius Visaya, of Hacienda Heights, apparently was wearing headphones at the time of her injury, and she may not have been aware that the train was approaching her, said coroner's Assistant Chief Ed Winter. She died at the scene, Winter said.
