Teenaged Driver and Passenger Critically Injured in Industry Crash

A teenage boy and his passenger were hospitalized in critical condition this morning after the teen lost control of a speeding car, which rolled over, struck a utility pole and burst into flames in Industry, authorities said.

The accident occurred around 12:55 a.m. on Valley Boulevard just east of Nogales Street, said Sgt. Nabeel Mitry of the Los Angels County Sheriff's Industry Station.

"A male juvenile driver was eastbound on Valley Boulevard just east of Nogales at a high rate of speed when he lost control and struck a light pole on the south side of the street," Mitry said. "The car flipped over and became engulfed in flames. The driver walked out. The passenger was ejected 20 feet onto the railroad tracks."   Both were transported by ambulance to UC Irvine Medical Center in Orange, he said. Both were in critical condition, said Los Angeles County Fire Department Dispatch Supervisor Sgt. Ed Pickett.

The passenger was a male, authorities said, but no other details about him were immediately released.
