Trial for Former Lorbeer Teacher Andrews Delayed Until Early 2014

Steven Andrews will return to court Jan. 6.

The trial for a former Lorbeer Middle School teacher charged with committing lewd acts on a 14-year-old student won't get underway until early next year.

Steven Andrews, 42, appeared in Pomona Superior Court Tuesday for a hearing. During that appearance, a pre-trial hearing was set for Jan. 6, said Shiara Davila-Morales, a Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office spokeswoman.

The jury trial for Andrews was set to get underway in early October, but was pushed back "due to pretrial matters that need to be addressed before moving forward," Davila-Morales said at the time.

The defendant surrendered to Walnut/Diamond Bar Sheriff’s Station deputies on Sept. 30, 2011. He faces 17 charges, including six counts of sexual penetration with a foreign object, six counts of unlawful sexual intercourse with a child, two counts of oral copulation with a child under 16, and three counts of lewd acts on a child. He pleaded not guilty in November 2011.
