Walnut Woman Charged with Fatally Stabbing Husband Gets Jan. 28 Trial Date

Socorro Mora has been charged in the murder of her estranged husband George Mora in 2011.

A Walnut woman accused of the 2011 murder of her estranged husband could be headed to trial in the new year.

Socorro Mora, 45, appeared in Los Angeles Superior Court last Wednesday. Her next court date has been set for Jan. 24 for a trial readiness hearing, said Shiara Davila-Morales, a Los Angeles County District Attorney's office spokeswoman.

Mora's jury trial is scheduled to begin Jan. 28 in Department F of the Pomona courthouse, she said. Trial dates are subject to change.

Mora pleaded not guilty during a second arraignment June 27.

She was arrested Oct. 19, 2011 and charged with murdering her estranged husband George Mora at his Brookside Court home in Walnut a few days before.  The father of four was found dead from multiple stab wounds minutes after Socorro Mora called the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department to report a domestic disturbance at the home. 

When deputies arrived, they found the defendant in the front yard bleeding from her wounds. Besides being charged with fatally stabbing her husband, Mora also is accused of killing one of the family dogs last September and faces a third count of domestic violence related to an alleged incident that also took place around the same time.

Mora is being held on $5 million bail at the Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood.
