10 Candidates to Vie for Walnut City Council Seat

The Walnut City Council will have a special meeting Wednesday to likely appoint a candidate to the vacant seat.

A former state assemblyman, a previous council candidate, and a current planning commissioner are among the field of 10 candidates vying for a vacant Walnut City Council seat.

The city will have a special meeting Wednesday night to interview candidates to fill the vacancy.  Former Mayor Tom King in June announced his resignation effective July 1 and the council members subsequently decided that they would appoint someone to fill an interim term until the April 2014 election.

Walnut has received 10 applications for the post, City Clerk Teresa de Dios wrote in a report to council. The applicants are expected to speak at this week's council meeting and field questions.

The list of candidates are as follows:

  • Robert Pacheco
  • Dr. Anthony Culpepper
  • Patrick Webb
  • Waseem Najmi
  • S. Sean Monemi
  • Dr. Howard Wang
  • James E. Swartz
  • Michael D. I. Foord
  • Jonathan L. Yu
The Walnut City Council will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday at City Hall, 21201 La Puente Road.
