An Interview with Councilmember Carol Herrera

Herrera is one of two councilmembers up for re-election in November.

Carol Herrera is a fixture on the Diamond Bar City Council; she was first elected in 1995, and has served as mayor multiple times. A longtime resident of the city, she was named Woman of the Year by the 60th Assembly District in 1998, and along with Jack Tanaka, is one of two council members up for re-election this November.

Patch: Why are you running for re-election?

Carol Herrera: It is my vocation to serve the residents of Diamond Bar. There are several projects that I have been working on, and some have been achieved: Diamond Bar Center, a new home for the L.A. County Library, a new home for City Hall. Other projects are not completed and I want to finish my work.

What will be your top priority if you are re-elected?

Fixing the design defects of the 57/60 interchange, where there are many accidents per day, getting this project on the lists for the state and local organizations, and getting state and federal funding for this project.

What motivated you to run for City Council the first time?

A desire to improve my community.

If you had a magic wand, what would you do for Diamond Bar?

Attract dynamic businesses to locate in Diamond Bar, make it a desirable place to shop. This would ensure the future fiscal health of the city, where there would be no dependence on the residents to pay extra taxes to support services.

Was it an easy decision to run for re-election?

Yes, it is my life work.
