Animal Control Officials to Do Pet Checks in Walnut

The checks, which will last three weeks, will start Wednesday.

Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care and Control officers plan to be in Walnut Wednesday to check for current rabies vaccinations and make sure that residents are in compliance with licensing requirements.

The officers plan to be in the city for about three weeks, according to a news release.

Animal Care and Control officials said they want to "remind residents that securing a pet license is an important part of identification and can assist animal control agencies if your pet becomes lost."

Walnut pet owners are urged to make sure they are in compliance with licensing requirements.

The licensing fees for City residents are as follows:

  • Unaltered dog- $72
  • Altered dog- $27
  • Altered dog belonging to a senior citizen (65+)- $9.50
  • Unaltered cat- $10
  • Altered cat- $5
  • Penalty fee- Equal to the license fee

Residents may be subject to licensing fees and deliquency charges, including $40 for field enforcement, if they are not in compliance, officials said.

To secure a new animal license, print an application online at animalcare.lacounty.gov, or by dropping by a local county animal care center. Residents who don't have delinquent licenses can renew them online.

The county also offers low-cost vaccination clinics and assistance for qualified individuals for spay and neuter surgeries. Visit the website or go to a local county animal care center to get information about these services.
