Assistant Fire Chief Dave Stone has 29 years of experience.

Tuesday night’s City Council meeting introduced Los Angeles County Fire Department Assistant Fire Chief Dave Stone to the community.

Stone comes to the area with 29 years of experience. He is a member of the Urban Search and Rescue Team, and went to work after Hurricane Katrina, last year’s tsunami in Japan, and the earthquake in Haiti.

“I am very pleased to be here,” Stone said. “I’m very happy, and have a great staff and battalion chiefs in this area.”

There are 20 fire stations in the division, and in addition to Diamond Bar, Stone will be overseeing Pomona, Walnut, La Puente, and City of Industry.

“It’s quite a busy assignment for me,” he said. “I look forward to it, especially in these challenging times.”

During the meeting, the Council also proclaimed April 22 through 28 National Crime Victims’ Rights Week, and April 15 through 21 Safety Seat Checkup Week.

According to statistics read by Councilmember Carol Herrera, 71 percent of small children killed in accidents would be alive today if they had been properly restrained.

“The state of California requires all occupants to be buckled up correctly on every ride,” she said. “Please keep our children safe.”

The next Diamond Bar City Council meeting is set for Tuesday, May 1.
