Bob Huff Named Legislator of the Year by CALA

He was honored during a recent ceremony in Irvine.

Senator Bob Huff (R-Diamond Bar) was named Legislator of the Year by Citizens Against Lawsuit Abuse, and was honored during a recent ceremony in Irvine.

“With more than one million lawsuits filed every year, California is one of the most litigious states in the country,” Huff said. “Lawsuits lead to lost jobs. I believe that correcting this problem is critical because California needs more business and more jobs, not more lawsuits. My goal is to improve the business and jobs climate in California and forging an understanding and an alliance that will help reduce lawsuits can only serve to help.”

Citizens Against Lawsuit Abuse (CALA) was founded in 1993, and is a nonpartisan group that works to educate consumers on the effects of lawsuit abuse.

“Senator Huff is one of the few legislators who are passionately fighting to keep business alive in California,” said CALA Regional Director Maryann Maloney. “He has taken the fight against lawsuit abuse to a new level by working to educate business owners on how to avoid predatory lawsuits and the first steps that business owners should take if they find themselves targeted.”

CALA decided to recognize Huff after he hosted two workshops for business owners on the Americans With Disabilities Act, in Arcadia this year and in Brea last year.

“It’s always been my belief that state and federal laws should protect those with disabilities, because they do deserve equal access to buildings, parking lots, restaurants, and restrooms,” he said. “The goal of these workshops is to help business owners meet these standards so they can be protected from ruinous and predatory lawsuits that lead to lost jobs or worse yet, businesses forced to close.”
