Capitol Comment: Huff Responds to Forecasted State Budget Surplus

Senate Republican Leader Bob Huff (R-Diamond Bar) reacts to the 2014-2015 state budget forecast from the Legislative Analyst's Office in his Capitol Comment for the Week of November 18th, 2013.

Senator Huff says the good news from LAO Chief Mac Taylor should be tempered with caution. Although his forecast shows that California will enjoy its first budget surplus since 2006, with many future surpluses to come, the projections are based on a number of assumptions. Senator Huff says this includes rising stock prices and a recovering housing market.

Senate Republicans agree with the conclusions reached by the LAO, which preaches fiscal prudence in the years to come. The Senate Republican Leader predicts there will be enormous pressure on the Legislature to spend this money, which he hopes legislators can ignore.
