City Prepares to Crown New Miss Diamond Bar

The 46th Annual Miss Diamond Bar Pageant takes place Sunday.

This weekend, Alexandra Miller will step down as Miss Diamond Bar as nine new contestants compete to become the 2013 Miss Diamond Bar at the 46th Annual Miss Diamond Bar Pageant.

The pageant is set for Sunday, March 17 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Diamond Bar High School Theatre.

Each year nine contestants compete for the title and only the top five are crowned. To enter into the competition, the contestants must either live in Diamond Bar or must be a student at Diamond Bar or Diamond Ranch High School and must be 16 to 27 years of age.

Throughout the year, Miss Diamond Bar has four princesses by her side to accompany her at all the community events she is required to attend. These events benefit these young women by providing them the opportunity to become role models to the community.

“My favorite part of being Miss Diamond Bar was being a role model for young children and playing with them at events, such as the WVUSD Teddy Bear Tea, Miss Diamond Bar Princess Party and the Diamond Bar Easter Egg Hunt,” Miller said.

The pageant also provides many new experiences and lessons for these women throughout their reign.

“Being Miss Diamond Bar taught me to experiment outside of my comfort zone and not to be afraid of new things,” Miller said. “I know now that if we all embrace our inner beauty and our individuality we can feel proud and accomplished of who we are.”

Miller said her year as Miss Diamond Bar helped her grow as a person and to become more confident in social situations.

“The pageant is an opportunity for the girls to grow as a person because they get to meet many people in Diamond Bar, including city officials, representatives, community leaders and Diamond Bar citizens,” said Linda Headlee, who is in charge of the Diamond Bar Pageant.

Throughout the pageant, the contestants go through a series of competitions. Prior to the pageant, the nine contestants have an interview session with the judging panel. During the competition, each contestant is asked an on-stage question, along with a swimsuit and evening gown competition. The five finalists are then chosen and are asked the same final question by the judging panel. At the end of the pageant the new Miss Diamond Bar is crowned.

“Miss Diamond Bar has the opportunity to, if she wishes, to go to the Miss California,” Headlee said.

Aside from given the opportunity to compete in Miss California, Miss Diamond Bar and the four princesses each receive a scholarship. Miss Diamond Bar can also choose to use her scholarship toward the Miss California pageant.

As for the new Miss Diamond Bar, Miller advises Miss Diamond Bar 2013 “to get really involved in the community and make as many memories as possible because she will miss it when her reign is over.”

“I hope my successor embraces the experience and falls in love with the program like I did,” Miller said.

How many people in wheelchairs, or blind people walking around have you ever seen in Walnut? I'veRead More lived here since 1968, I haven't seen one, not a single one. I have nothing against the handicapped, I do have a problem with the money it costs to jackhammer up sidewalks, and put ramps that nobody needs, especially 5 feet from a driveway aprin.

You are so cynical, Hillary is awesome!
