Foothill Transit to Open Park & Ride at Industry Metrolink Station Today

The 200-space parking structure is the first one the agency has owned.

Foothill Transit will open its first agency-owned park & ride today at the City of Industry Metrolink Station.

The agency, which provides public transportation for the San Gabriel and Pomona valleys, previously used park and ride lots owned by Caltrans or private businesses but wanted to open its own, according to a news release.

The structure will "provide a safe location for commuters traveling into Downtown Los Angeles," officials said.

Foothill Transit's Line 493, which serves Diamond Bar and Rowland Heights, will be rerouted to the new park and ride.

The structure will include 200 parking spaces, bike racks, security cameras, and emergency boxes on every floor.  Future plans include the addition of 18 electric vehicle charging stations and rooftop solar panels, officials said.

“Increased safe and easy access to public transportation benefits everyone,” said Doug Tessitor, Foothill Transit’s Board Chair, in a statement.  “Each person on board is one less car on the freeway.  And this new Industry Park & Ride makes it possible for all of us to enjoy cleaner air and safer, less congested streets.”

Foothill Transit ambassadors will greet new customers at the Industry structure today.  The first 100 customers will get a limited edition travel mug imprinted with the words "Vibrant Hills," which is a public art piece by California artist Hannah Daley that decorates the north side of the structure.
