With the holidays and colder weather now here, it is important that you stay safe. Fall and winter have more house fires than any other season. Between 2005-09, U.S. fire departments responded to an average of 240 house fires that started with a Christmas tree.

Also be aware of gases such as carbon monoxide, which is odorless and can cause death. Carbon monoxide poisoning kills approximately 500 people in the United States every year.

The holidays serve as a treasure trove of memories for the most of us – brought about by things as simple as the scent of a pine tree or a drawing on a greeting card. The holidays mean family – and family traditions celebrated by young and old.

Mei Mei joins me in wishing all Californians true peace and the love of family during this holiday season and a New Year filled with happiness and joy.
