Huff Expected to Become Senate Republican Leader in January

The current leader, Bob Dutton, R-Rancho Cucamonga, is stepping down.

Senate Republican Leader Bob Dutton, R-Rancho Cucamonga, announced that he will step down from his position in January, and Sen. Bob Huff, R-Diamond Bar, is expected to take his place.

"Much of the focus for the new leader will be, once again, dealing with a multibillion-dollar budget deficit in 2012," Dutton said in a statement.

In an interview with the Sacramento Bee, Huff said that the Republicans must still vote on the leader, but he has enough commitments to take over.

"I have the signatures for that, which signifies intent, so I anticipate that happening," he said.

Before going to Sacramento, Huff was a part of local politics, serving on the Diamond Bar City Council from 1995 to 2004, with stints as mayor in 1997 and 2011. Prior to that, he was on the Diamond Bar Planning Commission and the Diamond Bar General Plan Advisory Committee.
