Jack Tanaka to Again be Mayor of Diamond Bar

The city of Diamond Bar has a new mayor for 2013, but it's a familiar face: Mayor Jack Tanaka.

Tanaka was voted into the role by his peers on the city council at Tuesday night's meeting, as is done annually.  He previously served as mayor in 2008.

Councilman Ron Everett was named Mayor Pro Tem.

Outgoing Mayor Ling-Ling Chang was honored for her service in the leadership position this year, and presented with proclamations and certificates from several people and agencies including Senator Bob Huff, Congressman Ed Royce, the fire and sheriff's departments.

“As the first homegrown mayor, I was completely blown away being able to work with such wonderful colleagues,” Chang said at the meeting.  "Nothing can ever get done without the entire team... We had a phenomenal year.” 

Chang was not only the first female Asian American to serve as mayor for Diamond Bar, but she was also the first to serve on the council.

After those traditional presentations, the other city council members gave Chang a very unique gift: a bobble-head doll of herself.

"You can only have so many certificates," Councilman Steve Tye said, with a laugh.

Chang, who said she doesn't even normally like photos taken of herself, seemed to really appreciate the gesture.

“To have something of me is kind of strange," she joked, graciously offering to display it in one of the other members' offices.

"I would like to congratulate the entire staff and city for a job well done," she added.  "Thank you."
