Knabe to Run Unopposed in Primary

Los Angeles County Supervisor Don Knabe, who represents Diamond Bar as part of his Fourth District, will not have a challenger in the June 5 primary.

Los Angeles County Supervisor Don Knabe, who is seeking a fifth term, will have no re-election challengers in the June 5 primary contest for his Fourth District seat.

Neither will Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas in the race for the Second District seat.

Though Antonio Alvarez—one of nine candidates who ran against Ridley-Thomas in 2008 election—filed initial paperwork to run for office in February, he never followed through, leaving former Los Angeles City Councilman Ridley-Thomas unchallenged.

Supervisor Michael Antonovich—who has held the Fifth District seat since 1980—will run against Palmdale business owner Raj Pal Kahlon.

The primary election will be held June 5. The elections for supervisor are nonpartisan—candidates do not run on a party ticket—but those nominated are still required to get a majority of the vote in the primary to win the election outright and avoid a runoff in November.

No sitting Los Angeles County supervisor has been denied re-election since 1980, when Antonovich defeated Baxter Ward and Deane Dana defeated Yvonne Burke.
