L.A. County Unemployment Rate Drops
The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate dropped to 11.8 percent in January, down from a revised 12 percent in December.
The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in Los Angeles County dropped to 11.8 percent in January, down from a revised 12 percent in December, the state Employment Development Department announced Friday.
The 11.8 percent unemployment rate was below the 12.5 percent rate in January 2011, according to the EDD.
In Orange County, where seasonally adjusted numbers were not available, the unemployment rate was 8 percent in January.

California's jobless rate was 10.9 percent in January, down from 11.2 percent in December and below the rate in January 2011, when the rate was 12.1 percent, according to the EDD.
The comparable estimates for the nation were 8.3 percent in January, 8.5 percent in December and 9.1 percent a year ago.

Total nonfarm employment decreased by 84,900 jobs in Los Angeles County
between December and January to reach 3.77 million. The largest drop was in the information sector, which posted a gain of 25,600 jobs.
A total of 579,000 people were unemployed in January in Los Angeles County, which has a labor force of about 4.92 million.
Statewide, 2.02 million people were out of work, down slightly from the
previously month.
