Mei Mei Huff to Head San Gabriel Valley Lincoln Club

More than 200 people attended her swearing in ceremony, including husband Bob Huff, the Senate Republican leader.

Mei Mei Huff, the wife of state Sen. Bob Huff, R-Diamond Bar, will serve as the chairwoman of the San Gabriel Valley chapter of the Los Angeles Lincoln Clubs.

Los Angeles County Supervisor Mike Antonovich conducted the swearing in ceremony Saturday, which had more than 200 attendees.

The Lincoln Clubs, named after President Abraham Lincoln, date back to individuals closely linked to President Ronald Reagan when he served as California's governor in the 1960s and 1970s, according to a news release. The club is a donor organization that supports GOP candidates at all governmental levels, according to officials.

With the San Gabriel Valley's Asian population rapidly growing in the past 20 years, Robert A. Virtue, chairman of the Los Angeles County Lincoln Clubs Board of Governors, said that Huff would be an effective leader because she understands both cultures.

"Especially valuable is her understanding of the American political system, which will enable her to be an effective bridge between the mainstream American and Asian-American communities," Virtue said.

Huff said she plans to establish leadership training classes to aid qualified Asians with running for political office.

"I look forward to helping the Asian community understand that Republican values are our values," she said.  "Republicans, like Asians, want quality public schools, safe communities, and a government that gets out of the way to help us achieve our dreams."
