Newly Elected Diamond Bar Councilwoman Lyons, Incumbent Tye Take Oath

Tye, Chang, and Lyons won council seats in the Nov. 5 election.

The election of newly elected Diamond Bar City Councilwoman Nancy Lyons, as well as re-elected incumbents Steve Tye and Ling-Ling Chang, became official Tuesday night with the ratification of the Nov. 5. election results.

The council voted 4-0 to ratify last month's results, a final step to complete the election process, according to City Clerk Tommye Cribbins. Chang was absent.

The Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk Dean Logan officially certified the results Nov. 25, she said.  The council's vote ratifies that certification, she added.

Lyons, a 34-year Diamond Bar resident, was administered the oath of office by Mt. San Antonio College Board of Trustees Clerk David Hall as her family looked on.

She recently served on the Walnut Valley Unified School District Board of Trustees. She finished last month's election with the third highest vote total at 21.08 percent, according to results from the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk.

"I am very excited and very humble," Lyons said on election night last month. "I really love Diamond Bar. I have been here for over 30 years and I am really looking forward to serving the citizens."

Tye, who was elected mayor pro tem following the swearing in ceremony, received the oath from his wife Patricia. He was surrounded by his two sons, his daughter, and his daughter-in-law.

Tye and Chang finished with the first and second-highest vote totals at 23.68 and 22.61 percent respectively.

He said on election night that service is its own reward.

"I think it's just making a difference," he said.  "When you're out talking to people and you learn what their concerns are and that you can make a impact on that, it's rewarding."
