Petition Launched to Spend Site D Funds on Sports Fields

Lew Herndon is lobbying the Diamond Bar City Council and city manager to use the city's portion of the profits from the Site D sale for ball fields.

Lew Herndon, with the Diamond Bar Community Foundation, has launched a petition to raise funds for more sports fields.

The petition, titled "Diamond Bar City Council and City Manager: Use all funds from the sale of city owned 'Site D' property for sports fields" is posted on change.org.

"Diamond Bar has approximately 6,000 kids playing youth sports and for decades has had a shortage of sports fields," Herndon wrote in an e-mail.  "It is time to start funding the $5 (million) needed to solve the problem. The city could realize $1.8 (million) from the sale of their 'Site D' property. This amount would make a great 'down payment' on the $5 (million) so please sign and pass this email on to everyone you know who lives in Diamond Bar."

Site D is a 28.7 acre piece of land on the southeast side of Diamond Bar Boulevard and Brea Canyon Road owned by the Walnut Valley Unified School District. Adjacent to the land is a .93 acre piece of property owned by the city of Diamond Bar, which will be sold along with Site D.

The district accepted a bid on the property in June, but the sale remains in escrow.
