U.S. Rep. Ed Royce is officially the congressman representing the new 39th District.
Royce, R-Fullerton, was sworn in on Thursday to the 113th Congress and bid farewell to his former 40th District. The newly formed 39th District includes Walnut and Diamond Bar.
This marks the longtime congressman's 11th term.
The Fullerton resident won the race to represent the 39th District in November, defeating Democratic challenger Jay Chen.
"I want to thank the voters of the 39th district for placing their trust in me to represent them in the House of Representatives," Royce said in a statement after his election. "The 39th is a dynamic and diverse district and it is an honor to represent it. I also want to thank the over 1,800 volunteers who worked so hard to make this resounding victory possible. It is now time to put the campaign behind us and work to restore our economy, create good jobs and reduce the federal debt."
In late November, the Republican Steering Committee picked Royce to chair the Committee on Foreign Affairs in the 113th Congress. The prestigious committee's jurisdiction includes State Department issues such as embassy security. The committee of Republican leaders is lead by Speaker John Boehner.
