Royce Sworn In as 39th District Rep

The newly formed 39th District includes Walnut and Diamond Bar.

U.S. Rep. Ed Royce is officially the congressman representing the new 39th District.

Royce, R-Fullerton, was sworn in on Thursday to the 113th Congress and bid farewell to his former 40th District.  The newly formed 39th District includes Walnut and Diamond Bar.

This marks the longtime congressman's 11th term.

The Fullerton resident won the race to represent the 39th District in November, defeating Democratic challenger Jay Chen.

"I want to thank the voters of the 39th district for placing their trust in me to represent them in the House of Representatives," Royce said in a statement after his election. "The 39th is a dynamic and diverse district and it is an honor to represent it. I also want to thank the over 1,800 volunteers who worked so hard to make this resounding victory possible. It is now time to put the campaign behind us and work to restore our economy, create good jobs and reduce the federal debt."

In late November, the Republican Steering Committee picked Royce to chair the Committee on Foreign Affairs in the 113th Congress. The prestigious committee's jurisdiction includes State Department issues such as embassy security. The committee of Republican leaders is lead by Speaker John Boehner.

First vote as our new Congressman is to vote against providing aid to Hurricane Sandy victims. What an embarrassment.
Vito Spago January 05, 2013 at 11:21 AM
That 'aid' to Hurricane Sandy Victims is nothing but pork. About time someone stands up to the crooks in Washington.

Ed Royce is the biggest crook in Washington. Now he is going to do a bunch of travel junkets on the taxpayer dime and invite shady local politicians to go with him as payback for supporting his election. If an earthquake hits Los Angeles and Orange County is he going to vote against disaster relief as well? Great representative.

Hey Park. Your moron friend Chen lost. Deal with it.

Wow, Royce voted against a pork bill- that took guts. I have some respect for him now. Why should I pay for people that don't have insurance? I didn't see anyone from NYC rebuilding LA after the riots. If Royce keeps acting like a Republican, maybe he won't sell out my gun rights like EVERY DEMOCRAT will. I'm impressed.

Michael, Los Angeles did receive federal aid for rebuilding after the LA riots. So yes, NYC did help LA rebuild, just as LA is helping NYC rebuild. Spago, the ones who lost were the residents of the Walnut. Now they can benefit from the complete lack of representation that Fullerton has enjoyed for decades. Ask any Fullerton resident what Royce has done for his district.

Ever notice how LIBERALS like Allen Park and his buddy JAY CHEN twist the truth and simply call people names as part of theirs straw man arguments. Royce voted against the bill because of the PORK. The bill was supposedly to ;backfill flood insurance. Instead it was a myriad of PORK spending. There is no Federal earthquake insurance. And to call Royce a crook coming from JAY CHEN's group is a little ironic. Chen spent a million dollars of his brother's money slandering Royce through a PAC called America Shining. It reminds me of the last Walnut election where the losers did the same kind of slander. Of course they are all buddies and losers.

Watchdog, you seem obsessed with JAY CHEN. Ironically, the only bill Royce ever talks about is his anti-stalking legislation he passed 30 years ago. I think you should read up on that. This bill was to pay out claims made by homeowners who had flood insurance. Same as with Katrina, which Royce voted for. The difference here is that Katrina happened on Bush's watch while Sandy happened on Obama's watch. Katrina impacted subsidized red states while Sandy impacted donor blue states. That's why Royce voted the way he voted.

Your consistent repeating of untruths do not make it the truth. Your candidate JAY CHEN ran a dishonorable campaign based on falsehoods. You are his biggest fan and minister of disinformation. The bill was full of pork. That is why the Congressman voted against it. Throwing the RACE CARD by you is also not going to get Chen in no matter how many millions of offshore money he spends.
Allen Park January 07, 2013 at 04:49 PM
Ignoring the hypocrisy of your Congressman won't make it go away. Please tell me the difference between the Katrina aid bill and the Sandy aid bill. Or are you just going to keep promoting JAY CHEN as an alternative to Royce as a distraction? Fine by me either way.
