Park Renovations Not Quite Done Yet

Diamond Bar's City Council may decide to use additional grant money to purchase more interpretive panels for Sycamore Canyon Park.

The city may have recently dedicated Sycamore Canyon Park, but work on the park is far from over.

Diamond Bar's City Council will decide if they want to approve the use of $4,250 to purchase three interpretive panels to add to already existing panels at the park.

The money would come from a grant from the Prop. 84 Nature Education Facility Program that required the design of three additional panels. Staff is recommending the council choose Architerra design agency, which designed the other seven panels, to create the additional three panels.

They had already had the panels mostly completed when, “the City then received a grant from the Prop. 84 Nature Education Facility Program that required the design of three additional interpretive panels,” reported Bob Rose, Director of Community Services.

A dedication ceremony was held May 5 to celebrate the park renovations. Officials celebrated the completion of the fourth phase of a multi-phased project that created a new par course, featuring 10 different exercise stations, restored a nearby riparian habitat zone, improved the drainage system and added benches along the trail.

The original amount of the contract with Architerra was $66,000. In order to add the panels, the staff is asking the council to amend the contract increasing it to $70,250 and to extend it to June 30, 2013.

The council meets tonight at 6:30 at the AQMD/Government Center auditorium 21865 Copley Drive.
