Upgrades to Diamond Bar's Bark Park to Start Next Month

The work will include adding two shade structures, two more drinking fountains for dogs, and six benches.

Planned upgrades to the city of Diamond Bar's dog park are expected to get underway next month.

The Bark Park, which is located at Pantera Park, will get two shade structures, two more drinking fountains for dogs, and six benches, according to the city's newsletter.

The work will mean the dog park will close for a short period, with construction scheduled to be finished by the start of summer, officials said.

The Bark Park, located on a 1.35-acre site near the basketball courts at Pantera Park, 738 Pantera Drive, opened in November 2012. The city hosted a grand opening for the project, which cost more than $200,000 to construct.

The doggie haven is comprised of two enclosed areas for leash-free roaming with existing amenities that include two drinking fountains with pet bowls, waste bags, trash cans, and park benches.

The additions to come largely were in response to residents who called for a few more amenities to make the dog park more complete, including shade cover, added seating, and more water fountains for the dogs.

Cecilia Arellano, public information coordinator for the city, said in December that the city had heard from community members and would tackle most of those issues right away.

Patch reader Ray Russell commented on the site in December that more amenties were needed, but encouraged residents to bring their dogs to enjoy in the meanwhile.

"The park is great to have," he wrote. "Still we need water, benches, some shade, paved entrance walks, and grass. Best of all the dogs don't care, they just have fun running and playing. If you have dogs, bring them for a visit. This is their park."
