Walnut and Diamond Bar Offer Tips for Disposing of Christmas Trees

Now that the presents have been unwrapped and those celebrating Christmas may be gearing up to put those decorations away, both the cities of Walnut and Diamond Bar want residents to know how they can recycle and dispose of their holiday trees.

The following information is provided by the city of Walnut on its website:

Walnut residents may easily recycle their live holiday trees by using the free Curbside Christmas Tree Recycling Program offered now directly through Valley Vista Services. Flocked or fire retardant trees will be accepted.

Between Thursday, December 26, 2013 and Friday, January 10, 2014, Valley Vista Services will pick up your Christmas tree at curbside on your regular trash day; if you follow these rules:.

All trees must have the following items removed:
• Plastic or metal watering containers
• Plastic or metal stands
• Ornaments and other decorations
• The majority of Tinsel

After this special service has ended, trees placed out for pick up must fit into your regular green waste container (with the lid closed). Call Valley Vista Services at 800-442-6454 for more information.

The city of Diamond Bar provided the following information in its newsletter:

Here’s a reminder that on regularly scheduled collection days between December 26 and January 10, the City’s two waste haulers will be picking up retired holiday trees from single-family residences and multi-family complexes, at no additional cost to customers.

Trees must be free of excess items such as stands, decorations, lights, and tinsel (snow flock is okay). Valley Vista Services asks that customers cut their tree in half if it is longer than six feet in length.

For more information, call Waste Management at 800.266.7551 or Valley Vista at 800.442.6454.
