Walnut Mayor Launches Food Drive for Needy Families

Residents can drop off their canned goods and boxed foods at City Hall Monday through Thursday.

Walnut Mayor Mary Su held a press conference Thursday morning to announce the start of a food drive.

Su said she needs to community to pitch in and support the effort to provide food to families in need this holiday season.

"Thanksgiving is just around the corner," she said in an email. "Within this Thanksgiving season we should all try to give."

Walnut residents can drop off their canned food at Walnut City Hall from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday until Dec. 31.

Su said she already has gotten a jump on the effort.

"I collected over 400 cans food and many cereal (boxes)," she said.

The food collected will go to the Walnut Food Bank and be distributed to families in need.
