Walnut to Form Welcome Home Committee for Military Service Members

The volunteer group's first meeting is Dec. 3.

Walnut Mayor Antonio "Tony" Cartagena is seeking community support for a new group being formed to welcome military personnel home.

The group of volunteers has been named the Open Forum for Walnut Military and besides welcoming service members home, would come up ideas to celebrate those who served, according to a news release.

"We don't have a group to recognize them and thank them for their service," Cartagena said at a council meeting earlier this month.

The group's first meeting will be at 4:30 p.m. Dec. 3 at the Walnut Senior Center, 21215 La Puente Road.
