Big Changes in Store for Diamond Ranch Sports Field

Construction on the Diamond Ranch High School field can proceed now that the Division of State Architects has approved plans for renovations.

Construction at Diamond Ranch High School can proceed now that the Division of State Architects has approved plans for the Diamond Bar campus' field renovation project.

The Pomona Unified School District received written approval in March.

“We’re thrilled that this project has been approved and will begin moving forward immediately,” said District Superintendent Richard Martinez through a written statement.  “Our parents have made it clear: they want this field done, and we’re going to deliver.”

The project will allow the Diamond Ranch football team to hold home games on the school’s field, officials said. Artificial turf, the school’s logo and graphics, as well as new football goal posts and a new scoreboard will be added.

Side bleachers will be changed to improve views for all fans in attendance on game-days.  Concrete will be added to the field’s existing hillside bleachers, improving seating accommodations, officials said.

In addition to improving the football playing area, plans include a new nine-lane track surface and triple jump, long jump, and pole vault accommodations.  New track and field lighting will increase visibility both during games and safety for any persons on field after hours, officials said.

The renovations are funded by Measure PS a $235 million general obligation bond measure intended to help the district repair, replace, update, and improve classrooms and other school facilities.

Diamond Ranch Principal Suzanne Steinseifer-Ripley summed up this news in a letter sent to parents this week:  “This decision brings us one step closer to meeting our goal of completing the field’s renovation by Fall, 2013.”
