Those honored received a $50 certificate to Staples and a plaque.

"Mr. Ojeda has an incredible dedication and passion for what he does," district officials said in a statement. "He oversaw grants that provided classroom computers and arranged exchanges with overseas schools. Mr. Ojeda is also very involved in the community having coached several youth sports teams among other activities"

Ojeda said he appreciated the recognition.

“It was an honor to be recognized by such a great organization as the Lakers,” Ojeda said in a statement. “I have always been a basketball fan and it was very exciting to stand at half court of one my favorite sports teams.  Thank you Staples for not overlooking hard working students, teachers, and administrators.”

Principals and teachers from various schools suggested the April student and educator of the month nominees based on teaching effort, academic achievement, and extracurricular activities.
