Mt. SAC Gearing Up for "Cash for College" Fair

The annual event provides free assistance for high school seniors in filling out financial aid forms for any college, not just Mt. SAC.

Mt. San Antonio College will offer free financial aid assistance to area high school seniors and their parents during its annual “Cash for College” fair on Saturday, Feb. 9.

The event kicks off with opening presentations by state Senators Ed Hernandez and Bob Huff, starting at 9 a.m. in Mt. SAC’s Sophia B. Clarke Theater.

Due to the popularity of this event, reservations are absolutely required.

“This event is all about helping students fill out the necessary financial aid forms by the March 2 deadline so that they don’t miss out on thousands of dollars that may be available to them,” said Mt. SAC Financial Aid Director Chau Dao. “We’re requiring all participants to register in advance so we can provide them quality personal assistance at the workshops.”

Cash for College provides hands-on assistance to college-bound students and their parents in completing and filing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) forms for the 2013-14 academic year. The event also helps students maximize their financial aid prospects by meeting the March 2 priority financial aid filing deadline. Assistance with the California Dream Act application will also be available. Filing applications early is recommended.

Parents and students must bring a copy of students’ Social Security cards or permanent resident cards, and a 2012 federal 1040 tax return and W-2. If 2012 information is not available, a 2011 tax return may be used along with 2011 W-2 forms. While assistance will be provided to two cohort groups—students planning to attend Mt. SAC and those planning to attend another college—the workshop information and assistance can be used to apply to any college, not just Mt. SAC.

Information and application forms will also be available for Admissions, Extended Opportunity and Programs Services, and other Mt. SAC student support services.

A free continental breakfast and lunch will be provided, and participants may also be eligible for a $1,000 scholarship sponsored through the California Student Aid Commission.

For more information and to make a convenient online reservation, go to: http://www.mtsac.edu/students/finaid/cashfair.html.  Parents and students may also contact the Mt. SAC Financial Aid Office by e-mail at financialaid@mtsac.edu, or by phone at (909) 274- 4457.

I wasn't talking about that, when did that happen, '73? Richard Nixon? That was a colossal waste ofRead More money. Nixon also started the EPA. Not many realize what a worthless Liberal he really was. He also took us off the Gold Standard which was the genesis for out of control gov spending.

How many people in wheelchairs, or blind people walking around have you ever seen in Walnut? I'veRead More lived here since 1968, I haven't seen one, not a single one. I have nothing against the handicapped, I do have a problem with the money it costs to jackhammer up sidewalks, and put ramps that nobody needs, especially 5 feet from a driveway aprin.

How about Hillary's failures: 1) Bill cheated on her 2) She was beat out for President by a Negro.Read More That is sure to "get" southern crackers like the Clintons, no matter how liberal they are. 3) Through incompetence, she is responsible for the deaths in Benghazi and covered it up.

You are so cynical, Hillary is awesome! She enabled the North Koreans to test a nuclear bomb withoutRead More consequences, turned Egypt into a hostile nation supporting the Moslem Brotherhood, supported the overthrow of Khadaffy in Libya, which is a paradise of Democracy now- take a romantic tour of Benghazi to prove it. Your nasty comments might bring on another fainting spell! "I declare, can a gentlemen get a lady a lemonade and a parasol"
