New Art Exhibit Comes to Graduate School

Twenty-nine artists are featured in a show titled While You Were Out. The exhibit will be on display at the Claremont Graduate School.

Claremont Gaduate School is hosting a new art exhibit titled While You Were Out, a wide-ranging art exhibition featuring the works of second-year MFA students.

The show opens at the East and Peggy Phelps Galleries on Sept. 24. An artist reception is scheduled from 6 to 9 p.m. Sept. 25. The exhibition continues through Oct. 12.

The galleries are open Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

The exhibition explores contemporary themes and includes work by painters, illustrators, sculptors, ceramicists, and digital artists from all over the world. With a broad array of styles—abstract to realistic, expressionistic to hard-edged—the group unites to engage and intrigue its audience, according to university officials said.

The show’s 29 artists impress viewers as they continue CGU’s long history of outstanding art-making that includes alumni such as Karl Benjamin, John Frame, and James Turrell, university officials said.

The Claremont Graduate University Arts Department exhibition program strives to present professional artwork of local, national, and international prominence. Its two main galleries feature a regular changing selection of outstanding visual arts and design exhibitions that are historical or contemporary in content and reflect the educational goals of the Art Department. The Claremont Graduate University art galleries are located at 251 E. 10th Street in Claremont. The galleries are free and open to the public.
