RUSD's Family Resource Center Seeks Santa's Helpers for Children in Need

The district, which serves a portion of Walnut, is inviting community members to participate in the Adopt N' Shop holiday program.

The following news release was provided by the Rowland Unified School District.

Hundreds of elves are at work – that is, employees, school staff and community members – to make the holiday season a little brighter for the most needy children in the Rowland Unified School District.

The district’s Family Resource Center, which helps families who live in poverty with needed services so their children can be more successful in school, organizes the Adopt N’ Shop Holiday program each year.

Now until December 6, people can adopt a child/family and are provided the child’s age, gender, clothing size and toy wish list. The Adopt N’ Shop program serves children and families from La Puente, Rowland Heights, West Covina and Walnut. On Saturday, December 14, from 9 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. at Northam Elementary in La Puente, the selected children and families chosen from across the District will delight in taking photos with Santa, holiday food, fun and opening presents.

If a community group, individual or business would like to adopt a child/family, please contact Monica Olmos or Kathy Rodriguez at the Family Resource Center at  626-854-2228 or download the form at and return it by fax to 626-854-2229.

“Last year there were 219 children and 75 families that benefitted from this special program,” said Jennifer Kottke, Coordinator of the Family Resource Center. “We truly appreciate all of the support and donations that the community  provides to help our local families.”

The Family Resource Center offers a variety of no-cost, low-cost program and services to children, youth and families who reside in the communities serviced by the Rowland Unified School District (Rowland Heights, La Puente, Walnut, West Covina and Industry.) The Family Resource Center is located at Northam Elementary School, 17800 Renault in La Puente and is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.

The Center provides health-related information, referrals, health-insurance and local resources in a variety of basic need areas. A Children’s Dental and Health Clinic is also on-site. For more information, call (626) 854-2228 or visit www.RowlandSchools.org
