Teacher Shaves His Head After Students Top API Goal

Walnut Elementary posted a 911 API score on the 2012 Growth Report released last month, a gain of 16 points.

According to Principal Janet Green, "“2012 has been a very big year for Walnut Elementary.”

First, the school earned the California Distinguished School Award – the State’s highest honor.

Walnut Elementary posted a 911 API score on the 2012 Growth Report released by the California Department of Education on October 11.

And it was a gain of 16 points.

Teacher Jeff Almberg promised students that he would shave his head if they topped 900 on the API testing they took last spring.

Well, they did it.

On October 22, during a VIP assembly in front of the entire campus, the fourth grade teacher kept his promise and had his hair buzzed - “taking one for the team,” he said.

Parent and hairstylist Jennifer Booher did an excellent job of leaving Mr. Almberg an inch of hair, but staff and students chanted “make him bald!”

And off came the rest of his hair.

Special star cookies were also delivered to classrooms to celebrate the school’s star students.
