Walnut Valley Unified Brings on New Principals

Four schools in the Walnut Valley Unified School District will be getting new leaders for the fall of 2011.

The Walnut Valley Unified School District welcomed new principals to four of its schools heading into the fall of 2011.

The administrative changes were triggered by the , assistant superintendent of educational services, and Linda Hansen, director of educational projects.

The departure of South Pointe Middle School Principal Scott Martinez, who took a position at El Roble Intermediate School in the Claremont Unified School District, left another administrative position open.

District changes

Castle Rock Elementary Principal Jackie Brown and Principal Robert Chang was later named the district's new director of Human Resources, a position that had been vacanted by current Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources (see correction).

Brown served as principal at Castle Rock since 2007 and was principal for five years at Vine Elementary School in West Covina before that. She has been in education for 30 years.

Chang started at Collegewood in 1997 and previously served two years as principal at Lassalette K-8 School in the Hacienda La Puente Unified School District.

New principals

principal Susan Arzola will be moving to South Pointe Middle School this fall.

Arzola was principal at C.J. Morris for the past 10 years and has a total 23 years in education. She has also been an early learning specialist and teacher.

Carol Sullivan will be the new principal at , returning to the Walnut Valley district after six years in the Chino Valley School District. Sullivan was at the Walnut district for 20 years prior to her time in Chino.

“It feels like coming back home to family and it’s a great fit," Sullivan said.

Sullivan has also been a Title VII project leader and English Language Development specialist, a multicultural mentor teacher, and a classroom teacher.

Carolyn Wills will take the helm at Collegewood Elementary. She has worked for the Walnut Valley district for 33 years and was most recently an interim principal at Quail Summit Elementary and before that served as principal designee at .

Wills has also been a classroom teacher and Peer Assistance Leaders advisor at . She first began teaching at Walnut Elementary School and has also taught at Collegewood and in the Walnut Valley School District.

An Nguyen will be the new principal at C.J. Morris Elementary. He comes from the San Jose Unified School District where he served as principal of Canoas Elementary School for four years.

Nguyen has also been a staff development coordinator, a technology resource teacher, a Title I specialist, and worked with the Santa Clara County Office of Education.

He also led the English as a Second Language (ESL) department, Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) accreditation coordinator, and database administrator for the Thai-Chinese International School (K-12) in Thailand from 2000-2002.

Correction: A previous version of this story indicated that Kathy Granger had left the district. That is incorrect. She did not leave but became the district's Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources in 2010.
