WVUSD Names Director of Technology

Kenneth "Kenny" Goodson will start in his new position Monday.

Kenneth “Kenny” Goodson was unanimously approved by the Walnut Valley Unified School District Board of Trustees as the new Director of Technology.

Goodson has 22 years of experience in information technology, management, and technical expertise. He is a graduate of the United States Air Force Leadership Academy, has a bachelor’s degree in informational technology, and is ITIL V3 Foundation certified. Since 2003, he has been the IT operations manager for SCAN Health Plan, and before that, the Gulf War veteran served as a computer scientist for the Department of Defense.

“We are happy to welcome Kenny to Walnut Valley,” Superintendent Dr. Dean Conklin said. “He brings exemplary qualifications and experience to our Information Technology Department.”

Goodson will start Monday. His position has been vacant since Ben Odipo moved to the Corona-Norco Unified School District in June 2009.

As a parent of a child in the district I am shocked that we have just hired another bureaucrat when we just heard yesterday that the district is facing a nearly four million dollar mid year shortfall and will likely add furlough days this year. I am disturbed by our superintendents priorities in filling an administrative position while planning to cut school days.

It's even worse when you consider that fighting the DOC program in court cost our kids $250,000 (RUSD settlement + lawyers) just after giving the last superintendent a $300K golden parachute after they fired her. That’s over a half –a –million dollars WASTED right there.

Martin, that is news to us teachers about the 4 million dollar shortfall and the furlough days. While the state budget's predictions are off, no surprise there, we haven't been told how it will affect the district yet. But I will agree that a new director is definitely not needed for the district. Parents need to pay attention and go to the board meetings. Did you know that they tried to give some of the new directors raises? Did you know that every board member & administrator received iPads, while some schools are using technology & computers that are 7 years old? Did you know that the new superintendent got a pay raise over what Dr. Simms was earning, not to mention all of the "perks" like free gas money. There is a lot of wasted money in our district and if we would cut some of it out, we wouldn't have to worry about summer school not being funded or certain school programs not being funded.
