Diamond Bar Golfer Named Player of the Year; Walnut's Woods Gets Coach Honors

The San Gabriel Valley Tribune recently named Diamond Bar High golfer Bethany Wu as player of the year and Walnut High's Cecil Woods coach of the year.

Wu, a junior who has committed to UCLA, was heralded for shooting under-par on a consistent basis and helping the Brahmas to their first CIF-Southern Section Northern Division title after winning one for the Eastern Division last year, the newspaper reported.

Diamond Bar High finished third in the CIF-SS qualifier. Wu did not play in the state finals because she was getting ready for a junior national tournament, but the team finished second.

Woods, coaching the team in only its third year of competition, helped the Mustangs get to a third place finish in the state, the newspaper reported.  The Mustangs tied Diamond Bar High for the Hacienda League title, finished second to the Brahmas for the CIF-Southern Section Northern Division team title, and won the CIF-SS Southern California qualifier, the newspaper reported.

The newspaper named Diamond Bar High at the top of its list of the ten best in the area and Walnut second.
