Morgan's Tour Includes Stock Exchange Stop

The city of Diamond Bar is still taking congratulations from local residents to give to the U.S. Women's National Team hero.

Hometown hero Alex Morgan’s Olympic dreams my already be in the history books, but the whirlwind surrounding her and her fellow gold-medal winning teammates is far from over.

Soon, Diamond Bar hopes to add to the growing list of honors. The city continues to collect personal congratulations from area residents for the city to use in a special community scrapbook.

“Once filled, these paper sheets will be bound to create a special Congratulatory Book that will be presented to Miss Morgan and/or her family at their earliest convenience and availability,” city officials said.

City officials began the effort at the urging of residents proud of the young soccer player, a graduate of Diamond Bar High School. Morgan and members of the USA Women’s National Soccer Team took the gold at the London Olympics in August. They defeated Japan 2-1.

On Aug. 27, Morgan made a surprise visit to her alma mater, Diamond Bar High School, where school officials retired her school number 13. Morgan signed autographs and take pictures with hundreds of students.

Morgan and NBA star Tyson Chandler were asked to ring the opening bell for the New York Stock Exchange on Sept. 11.

“Honored to ring the opening bell at the NYSE on 9/11 to support Action America,” Morgan wrote on her Facebook page. Action America encourages people to unite Americans to turn the events of 9/11 into positive action.

“Become an #actionist & make 9/11 a day of positive action!” Morgan wrote.

The U.S. Women's Team will play Australia on Sunday at the Home Depot Center in Carson as part of the team's victory tour.
