L.A. County Animal Shelters to Hold Big Adoption Event

Sixteen Southern California animal shelters, including Baldwin Park and Downey, will join a nationwide effort this weekend called "mega match-a-thon."

Thousands of furry creatures will be available for adoption this weekend with big discounts on adoption fees in 16 Southern California animal shelters, including those in and Downey, shelter authorities said Thursday.

The unprecedented participation of 16 shelters in the "Mega Match-a-Thon" is a result of a project organized by the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) and the Bark Avenue Foundation.

The event will be held March 30 to April 1 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.

"With the help of ASPCA and our 16 shelter partners, the Mega Match-a-thon will be the biggest-ever adoption event in Southern California, with more than 5,000 beautiful, deserving dogs, cats, puppies, kittens, and bunnies hoping to find new homes,” says Melanie Pozez, founder and executive director of Bark Avenue Foundation.

All the animals have been spayed or neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. Free collars, leashes and ID tags will be provided.
