Where My Mustangs At?

This past Friday Walnut hosted Claremont High at the famous, Ken Gunn Statium. After going 0-3 the last three years with the Wolfpack and heading into the game at 0-2, your Walnut Mustangs put on a show that shocked the area. As underdogs walking on the field they played as if they're no team to mess with.

Walnut quickly got on the board in the first quarter making it 7-0. Claremont respond almost immediatly, tieing the game. In the second quarter Sophomore Micah Maes throws a 14 yard past to Senior Chase Clark, giving the lead bak to Walnut, 14-7. Three minutes later Claremont answers right back in the air with a 23 yard touchdown pass. Later in the second, Case Clark now runs the ball in the end zone giving Walnut the lead again at 21-14. As the half is ending Micah finds Senior Rene McGowen in the end zone making the lead wider, 28-14. With 7:14 left in the 3rd quarter Junior Andy Coronado extends the lead even further at 35-14, Walnut. A minute later Claremont runs a 44 yard touchdown play, 35-20 Walnut. As the fourth quarter kicks off Walnut gets an interception running it in the end zone giving Walnut the largest lead of the game 42-20. Later in the fourth Claremont has two more touchdowns but in the end Walnut holds them off and gets the win! 42-35 Walnut.

They now go to week four with the record of 1-2. The Mustangs will be heading over to the Covina District Field to play Covina High (1-2). These two teams are very similar in size and talent. Covina and Walnut have always been fun to watch when playing against each other. Will the run game be to strong for the Colts or will the pass game be to fast for the Mustangs? Find out next Friday, September 20th. Kick off will be at 7PM at the Covina District Field.
