that is hilarious! video gamers! wait till the jack booted thugs kick in the door and kill a kid. iRead More wonder if these types of police are needed in this day and age. the real danger is the police, the video gamers are lost in the digital age and enjoy a good prank. most of you people are afraid to live, these cops are locked and loaded and looking for a shoot out. police procedure needs to be re-examined. bearing false witness......
The U.S. Supreme Court on Tuesday upheld Michigan's ban on affirmative action in college admissions.
Political PR Machine April 23, 2014 at 06:41 am
Affirmative Action takes into account Race. It is discriminatory.
TT April 23, 2014 at 07:06 am
Personally, I'm tired of the racism in sports, where ONE race gets almost all of the attention. It'sRead More time for REAL change. Until sports reflects the multicultural face of America, nothing else should.

Like anything, buying a house is a good deal if you get a low price. Unfortunately, mom and popRead More are terrible at getting good deals. Houses require loans, maintenance, insurance, property tax. These are all things that keep you from making money on your 'investment'. Mortgage rates being at rock bottom do not help. No wher for rates to go but up, so refinancing in the future at a lower rate is not in the cards.
Everyday Mathematics is just one of the programs that makes a heck of a lot of $ off of the millions of textbooks sold to schools that teach to the 'Core.' The Common Core isn't just restricting for teachers & students, it's lining people's pockets.
CowDung April 23, 2014 at 07:15 am
Jennifer: It doesn't bother me that textbook providers are involved with standardsRead More development--they are the ones that need to provide materials that meets the standards, so it makes sense that they are involved. Textbook providers get the same benefit whether we use Common Core or not. They sell books to schools. If schools use Everyday Math curriculum, they provide those books. If schools want Singapore Math curriculum, they provide those books. Have you actually read the standards Jennifer, or are you just parroting propaganda gleaned from various anti-Common Core websites?
CowDung April 23, 2014 at 07:17 am
"Very few have the ability to use critical thinking skills to analyze information. In fact, itRead More sometimes seems painful for them to think out of the box. Our students should be able to understand the reasoning that needs to be applied to find solutions, especially when it isn't exactly what they've seen before, so they can apply those skill to address the many issues they will encounter in the future. " :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: The Common Core Standards require critical thinking skills. It should be a great improvement over what we had previously.
CowDung April 23, 2014 at 07:21 am
"IF there were meaningful differences between the CC -"aligned" curricula."Read More Read the Standards, Jennifer. It really doesn't take much to develop curriculum that aligns with the standard. All of the traditional maths that we took as kids can be 'CC aligned' with minor adjustments--adding more 'story' problems to the mix would go a long way toward meeting the Standards.

Where are the stories about the rates charged by the Cable cartels-???---Especially Leftist,Read More Democratic Comcast, the premier robber barons, who fill the campaign tills of the Dumocrats.
Paul April 22, 2014 at 06:10 pm
Netflix is hands down the best deal going, and it has been a bargain for YEARS. I guess theRead More nonsensical whiners who complain about a long-delayed, $2 a MONTH increase are worried it will cost them a (partial) SINGLE LATTE. Utterly ridiculous.
Gregg L. DesElms April 23, 2014 at 07:36 am
TO MICHAEL BRENNICK: Leftist, Democra... WHAT? You think Comcast is part of the so-calledRead More "liberal" media (which, by the way, doesn't even exist)? Are you freakin' KIDDIN' me? [shakes head in disbelief] Wow. The FOX NEWS CHANNEL should be held criminally liable for what it has done to your brain.

Dorie, stowing away on a plane is a crime. And no, the boy himself did not pose a threat. But theRead More fact that he (anyone) can get that close to a plane poses a threat. I have to take off my flippin' shoes and get patted down, but apparently you can just walk up and plant a bomb in the wheel well.
april ann April 22, 2014 at 10:30 am
I agree with B. Dub 100%! How was this kid able to scale a fence and just walk right over to theRead More plane? TSA: for all the harassing you do in the terminal...you ain't all that!! As far as the kid being a runaway..maybe he does face some serious abuse issues at home. He's damn lucky to be alive. But, I raised three boys, and a 16 year old boy can runaway for any collage of reasons. My kids never ran away but, I'm wondering if the fact that the plane was going to HAWAII has anything to do with it. It sounds a little compulsive to me. CPA need good follow up on this. Thank you lucky stars kid!

It wasn't a miracle that he survived, it was Easter Sunday, and good things always happen.Read More "always look on the bright side of life"......Life of Brian........overlooked miracle worker....... Not a problem to let other kids of similar intelligence do the same thing, it will improve the human gene pool immensely, and the human race will benefit overall as a result.

Surprised that anything was said to her. We went to WDW and had a woman behind us on Small World whoRead More was breastfeeding without covering up. We have no problem with breast feeding your baby - just cover yourself. It should be a private moment with you and your baby. A older man asked her to cover up. She was apologized to and is still whining. 15 minutes are up.

Agranon - I'm a moron because I am tired of everybody and his mother trying to put themselves inRead More every story? Then so be it - I'm a moron. To be honest, I am also really tired of all the people that were compelled to run the Boston Marathon because "I had to finish for all those who couldn't." Get over yourself. It was a tragedy. Those responsible should be ripped apart by dogs. I sincerely hope the families of those affected can move on somehow. But how does Mary Jane Smith running the marathon help ANYBODY but herself? She's not doing it for "those who can't". She's doing it to maybe get on TV and she's probably feeling a little sanctimonious because she ran 26.2 miles and you didn't. It's like, "what did YOU do to help these people?" Same as you - nothing.

Who has even heard of these stores? Didn't Aaron Bros.go under in 1987? Who wants to take the timeRead More to hack into these accounts? Dummies that shop there don't have any money! Low-brow and low income customers who bring in their 5 screaming kids ( 4 are obese!) And their parents let them terrorize the rest of the shoppers. Security is a deterrent not a preventative measure. There is no way to be secure from everyRead More possibility because it is impossible to even conceive of every possibility. Instead we try to secure against the threats we know of through experience and those we may anticipate through inference extrapolated from those experiences. The businesses are naturally and rightly profit driven and things that do not directly and or immediately hurt the bottom line do not get priority funding. Thieves too are profit driven though they are less regulated than business and in general face more personal risk than businesses typically do toward realizing their bottom line. Due to the actual few distinctions between the thief and business the thief must be the more resourceful of the two and thus more innovative. Security is always going to be a reactionary means of preventing theft. The proactive means to prevent theft are to accept there is no absolute security and otherwise either too expensive, too harsh, too time consuming or some combination of those. Considering how long humanity seems to have dealt with the issue, one might think we would have tried all of the available variables and figured it out sometime during the last 5000 years through trial and error. Oh wait, we have. Communities where the moral code is instilled in the population from cradle to grave coupled with punishment, justly applied, for infractions have almost zero crime and it costs them almost zero dollars. Face it folks, we're all hippy freaks living in/on a commune we call Earth. Continually spending good money over top of bad as our orthodox approach has required over the centuries has only produced more crime and or prisons. This implies more crime/prisons is the goal if you THINK.

For those of you observantly too clueless, Citrus County is 95.05% white, votes Republican in local,Read More state and national elections. Presently, Republicans hold all seats on the Citrus County Commission. In addition, the per capita income for the county is listed at $18,585. Nearly 12 percent of the population lives below the poverty level and close to 9 percent of families below the poverty line. So, instead of trying to bash the president and what he stands for, how about taking the time to realize the error of your ways and correcting the lies you continue to spew and believe on a daily basis. You just might find out that you've been voting against your interest for all of the wrong reasons; bigotry being one of them.
TT April 23, 2014 at 06:42 am
BassGreat is what I call an O'bot, just like this child killer. Because an area has a lot ofRead More Republicans in it (not saying that what you said is true, I'm just throwing out a hypothetical), doesn't mean that it is completely void of murderous Liberal parasites. Since you're throwing out percentages, how about telling us what percentage of drive by shooters, car jackers, gang members, and mass shooters are Obama voters. Go ahead and say bashing the Left doesn't matter or pertain to this story. But because the overwhelming majority of violent criminals are Democrats, it becomes VERY significant. You devils are dangerous, and it's time to admit it.
