The store opened in July.

The Diamond Bar City Council Tuesday night honored Grand Army-Navy Surplus by presenting its owners with the the new business of the month award.

The Grand Avenue store, which opened in July in the Albertsons-anchored shopping center, offers military clothing, tactical gear, camping equipment, and other general merchandise.

Mayor Jack Tanaka presented owners Frank Guzman and Daniel Martinez with a plaque from the city.

"We'd like to thank you for choosing and investing in Diamond Bar," he said.  "We appreciate your business and contributions to the city's economy."

Guzman, who also serves as the vice president of the Pomona Unified School District Board of Education, said besides selling retail goods, the store also offers classes on the weekends and is looking to expand to become a disaster preparedness center.

The store also has a wall honoring military service members.

"We are inviting the community to bring a photo of a loved one, or of yourself, who served in the military so you can be a part of our wall of fame," he said. "We appreciate your service."
